Backyards, large or small, can become relaxing retreats and fantastic entertaining spaces. They should be a continuation of the warmth and coziness found inside your home! Here are a few ways you can transform your outdoor living space:

Make your own private oasis

Use your yard to escape from the mundane. A fence of latticework can provide privacy, so you can relax in comfort and without the stress of wondering who may be peeking into your yard. Latticework can be made from wood, plastic, metal or bamboo. Many types of latticework are affordable, and trailing vines planted along them will create a serene atmosphere.

Living spaces can be created with simple lounge chairs, Adirondack chairs, or outdoor furniture. An outdoor rug and weather-resistant cushions and pillows make the space comfortable and inviting. A portable gas or wood fire pit anchors a gathering space, for telling stories or making s'mores. 

Outdoor kitchens don’t need to be costly. A grill, an outdoor table (such as a potting bench or stainless work table), and an ice chest can become a budget friendly, functional kitchen space for meals and entertaining.

Just as you would inside a home, plan to create designated but connected spaces for cooking, eating, and lounging. And don’t forget the lighting! String lights and solar path lights will provide the perfect ambience.
